Last Tuesday, the Parliamentary Committee on Social Policy and Family voted in favor of an amendment to the “anti-crisis shield” modifying the originally intended rules for tenants to terminate their lease. However, this does NOT solve all doubts.
According to the current wording of the act – which will still be processed by the Parlament – the tenant will gain a REFUND OF THE LEGAL EFFECTS OF THE STATEMENT OF WILL TO RENEW THE LEASE. The tenant will be able to exercise this right within 14 days of the effective date of the amendment, and at the same time the termination will only be able to apply to the period after December 31, 2020.
It is intended that these amendments will apply only to the future LOCKDOWNS OF THE GALLERIES.
However, it seems that the amendments do not fully accomplish this goal.
After all, a lot can depend on the exact wording of the annexes, which were signed up in different legal realities. Hence, should the changes actually come into effect, practice will largely determine their interpretation.
